Applying for apprenticeship? You’re four steps away from your future. Here’s a step-by-step guide.
If you’re applying to any of our apprenticeship schemes, you’ll need to go through our online application process. We’ve made this clear and helpful, so you know what to expect at every stage. Also, we’ve included some tips from us!
Please let us know if you require any reasonable adjustments.
If you need to speak to anyone in the recruitment team, you can contact us Mon – Fri between 08.30 and 17.30 on 0333 0062939 (Option 1), or email us at [email protected]
Step 1 – Online application
Exploring your options
This stage is all about you. It’s where you enter your personal details and experience and select the programme you want to apply for.
Before you get started, please make sure you know which programme you want to apply for. Remember, you can only apply for one.
When filling out your details, please read the instructions carefully and provide all the details of your qualifications.
When you’re finished, don’t forget to proofread your answers before submitting them. If you’re unsure of any answers, do contact us before submitting.
Ready? Great! Let’s get started.
We’ll let you know with an email right away if you’re through to the next stage.
Step 2 – Online test
Showing your strengths
This situational test helps us (and you) to identify your key strengths and the things that you’re naturally good at.
To make the most of Stage 2, we recommend that you:
- Set aside some quiet time to complete the task and answer the practise questions
- Answer the questions honestly, this is a two way process and it’s important that you feel comfortable working at TfL
If you’ve applied to the London Underground apprenticeship, you will receive two tests.
Step 3 – Video interview
You’ll record yourself using a webcam or your mobile phone.
We understand you may not have lots of work experience yet, that’s why we only want to know two things: your motivation for the scheme and what you think you’ll bring to the role.
If you haven’t done a video interview before, don’t worry, we have some practice questions ready to help you.
Before you get started, make sure you:
- Use a broadband or high-speed internet connection to ensure good quality video
- Check the lighting in the room to make sure your face isn’t hidden in shadows and try to sit in front of a plain background
- Look into the camera and speak clearly
- Think about what you’re wearing, you don’t need to be in a suit but probably best not to wear your pyjamas!
Step 4 – Assessment day
Getting to know us
If you’ve made it to this stage – congratulations! The final step is to meet us in-person at an assessment day.
Along with an invitation to join us at an assessment centre, we’ll send you a provisional date which will be between March and May 2019. To help us guarantee your place, you’ll have 48 hours to confirm your attendance.
Unfortunately, we’re not able to move the dates as these are fixed for the programme you’ve applied to.
On the day, you’ll be asked to take part in two assessment activities – a group task and a one-to-one interview.
Within a week, you’ll find out if you have an offer. Either way, you’ll be able to book a call with one of our assessors who will be able to give you one-to-one feedback.
